“The idea of chosenness can be problematic in cultural contexts when viewed through the lens of radical individualism. In Western contexts, society is organized so that only one team can win, only one runner can break the tape. All else is loss. In fact, the universe may be more reflective of the perspectives of indigenous communities who often foster a win/win social environment, with losses integrated as normative and balancing events. If the universe is as interconnected as some suppose, its survival can’t be separated from ours. —Barbara A. Holmes, Race and the Cosmos, p. 96-97
“Seven Years of Wonder” is a daily look back at my creative journaling posts since 2014. I began this journey on Feb. 11, 2021, and hope to continue through Feb. 10, 2022. What am I learning about my art and faith journey thus far? What has remained constant? Where have I been changed? How is this impacting present and future art-making?
A deep bow of gratitude to you for keeping me company on this journey.
Absolutely. You’re spot on, Jim. In fact, here are the words that accompanied the image back in 2016, “The River and Richard Rohr invite me into much pondering these days. ‘Christ is the name for the very shape and meaning of the universe.’ ~Richard Rohr”
Your 2016 words and drawing sound like Fr. Richard Rohr’s Universal Christ.
