May 15

I love when a Liz story pops up, like it did on this day in 2017. I can still hear her asking, “…and what am I doing INside?!” She embodied, for me and for many, “a more synthesized awareness which begins in wonder and ends with wisdom.”

And by the way, the Oceans poem shared in 2020 was a Liz favorite.

I’ve been really missing you lately, Liz.

2020

“There is
a reason
why we
call it
supernatural
when we
meet grace
so holy and
the breath of life
lonely in the
darkness above.”

—Meister Eckhart’s Book of the Heart by Jon M. Sweeney & Mark S. Burrows, p. 70

“I have a feeling that my boat
has struck, down there in the depths,
against a great thing.
And nothing happens
Nothing…Silence…Waves…
—Nothing happens? Or has everything happened,
and are we standing now, quietly, in the new life?”

—Juan Ramón Jiménez, Oceans

In the stuck places,
melancholies are gathered—
we wade together.

2019

“The Divine Feminine is a prism who throws her radiant reflections in all directions.” —Mirabai Starr, Wild Mercy

2018

Let there be light. ~Genesis 1:3

Come, Energy Divine.

From Richard Rohr’s Daily Meditation: “Leonard Shlain suggested that artists paved the way for new physics, ‘Art and physics, like wave and particle . . . are simply two different but complementary facets of a single description of the world. Integrating art and physics will kindle a more synthesized awareness which begins in wonder and ends with wisdom. . . .'”

2017

Yesterday I was sharing with Liz my recent early morning “burning bush” experience outside the River House. At one point in the story, she completed a question I had begun with “…and what am I doing INside?!”

Liz, your spirit is such a gift.

“Seven Years of Wonder” is a daily look back at my creative journaling posts since 2014. I began this journey on Feb. 11, 2021, and hope to continue through Feb. 10, 2022. What am I learning about my art and faith journey thus far? What has remained constant? Where have I been changed? How is this impacting present and future art-making?

A deep bow of gratitude to you for keeping me company on this journey.
