February 21

70 degrees… That’s what the local forecast is today. With that, the traces of snow will disappear. The birds are singing their praise.

There’s a lot of turning in the art, too, created on this day.

You decide to turn.”—Joe Grant

My online journaling session through Gena Davis’s book, YogaMass: Embodying Christ Consciousness, begins today. For the next four weeks, my morning posts will be dedicated to that work.“The only unique contribution that we will ever make in this world will be born of our creativity.” —Dr. Brené Brown, The Daring Way

“As a science, yoga facilitates connection to the highest truth and awakens greater awareness and connection to self and life.” —Gena Davis

Episcopal deacon and mom Claire Brown writes about an experience of bringing her five-week-old baby to the School of Theology’s morning prayer, “There is enough stillness that for a moment, I notice the way the morning light comes through the walls of windows in the Chapel, notice the hint of incense and the feel of stone under my feet, notice that maybe my neighbors don’t mind the fuss as much as I fear they do. Maybe we can do this! Maybe there is space for us here!”

“The spiritual journey continues as we learn and expand outward in growth and then contract and go inward, as we serve others and then take time for ourselves, as we experience pain and then heal.” ~Gena Davis, YogaMass: Embodying Christ Consciousness

“[A]s the spiritual journey continues to deepen, it comes full circle back to where we started.” ~James Finley

Worship notes from today’s sermon with Pastor Emmanuel Jackson… a great day to be at Living Word!

“Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the city that kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to it! How often have I desired to gather your children together as a hen gathers her brood under her wings, and you were not willing!” ~Luke 13:34. … Many will be hearing this Gospel reading today, many having experienced the depth of maternal love. Today my heart is heavy with the news of another young man killed by the plague of violence in El Salvador. I cannot fathom the suffering of his mom, my dear friend.

Connecting the hands and hearts of the youth from the Lutheran Churches of the Central African Republic and Peru. Artwork created by a youth of Emanuel Lutheran Church in Collique, Perú, inspired Ornella, one of the young women on scholarship at the Maigaro Technical High School in CAR, to share a song. Let’s join voices with Ornella and sing to our God!

Editor’s Note: This was one of the daily entries from a Lenten devotion series I curated with the companion synods of the ELCA Gulf Coast Synod.
