I AM the long welcome,

the truth beneath your feet,

the wildest wave you’ll ride,

and within you, a party alive.

What does it mean to be church today?

I AM a puzzlement made of a multitude of we are’s.

When at last you know you do not know,

humble acceptance opens a door,

and wisdom enters with our willingness to be led.

Love has a strange door
Opening within, without,
A hinged mystery.

“As the mysteries abound, I turn to the work of theologian Edward Farley (1929-2014), who said this about the task before us: ‘We are not given so much a cognitive victory over the mysteries of life as occasional illuminations against a huge backdrop of puzzlement.’ Puzzlement may be the beacon that sustains our search for the good life.” —Barbara A. Holmes, Race and the Cosmos, p. 37

“Seven Years of Wonder” is a daily look back at my creative journaling posts since 2014. I began this journey on Feb. 11, 2021, and hope to continue through Feb. 10, 2022. What am I learning about my art and faith journey thus far? What has remained constant? Where have I been changed? How is this impacting present and future art-making?

A deep bow of gratitude to you for keeping me company on this journey.
