November 7

Back in 2014, I see that I wrote, “Jesus withdrew to pray. I go to the bayou – or my cabin – or my journals.”

With this day’s sequence of images, I wrote this blessing for you and for me:

Blessed be the holy pauses in life, those “feelin’ groovy” moments. Keep showing up there because you are my labor of love. Through you, I yoke, link, connect, heal. In the quiet, in the crisis, I am with you, and together we fly.

“Flying as transcendence can be accomplished in any number of ways; the method of transport is not nearly as important as the effect on the spirit and soul. What is important is that, inevitably, those who fly by means of creative practices, music, dream states, scientific inquiry, or stories tend to remember their primal connections to cosmic reality.” —Barbara A. Holmes, Race and the Cosmos, p. 106

“Seven Years of Wonder” is a daily look back at my creative journaling posts since 2014. I began this journey on Feb. 11, 2021, and hope to continue through Feb. 10, 2022. What am I learning about my art and faith journey thus far? What has remained constant? Where have I been changed? How is this impacting present and future art-making?

A deep bow of gratitude to you for keeping me company on this journey.
