We make meaning when we connect.

2010 – From more than seven years ago comes this paper mural I did with friends in Peru as we prayed together over a number of months. I’m smiling as just yesterday as I took out from storage a mug that was a gift from Maura, the dear woman in the red shawl (2nd from the left). I was looking for something special to hold my paintbrushes.

“We may know immeasurably more about the universe than our ancestors did, and yet, it increasingly seems they knew something more essential about it than we do, something that escapes us. … Transcendence [is] the only real alternative to extinction.” —Václav Havel, “The Need for Transcendence in the Postmodern World”, from Barbara A. Holmes’ book, Race and the Cosmos, p. 105

“Seven Years of Wonder” is a daily look back at my creative journaling posts since 2014. I began this journey on Feb. 11, 2021, and hope to continue through Feb. 10, 2022. What am I learning about my art and faith journey thus far? What has remained constant? Where have I been changed? How is this impacting present and future art-making?

A deep bow of gratitude to you for keeping me company on this journey.
