January 7

There is much to ponder with this day’s seven years of images.

What I find myself most wanting to say out loud, though, is… “Happy Birthday, Liz.”

“For healing to happen to both white and black, to address white supremacy, a new ethos is demanded. A quantum leap from keeping the other at bay to noticing we are already the ‘others,’ already entangled in palimpsests of trauma and possibility and co-becoming. New concepts disturb the rigidity of ‘identity’ and help us see how already entangled we are. How prolific, promiscuous, porous, and potent our becoming is. And how this can inspire a different ethos of responsivity.” —Bayo Akomolafe, These Wilds Beyond Our Fences, p. 166

“Seven Years of Wonder” is a daily look back at my creative journaling posts since 2014. I began this journey on Feb. 11, 2021, and hope to continue through Feb. 10, 2022. What am I learning about my art and faith journey thus far? What has remained constant? Where have I been changed? How is this impacting present and future art-making?

A deep bow of gratitude to you for keeping me company on this journey.
