January 8

Today more than ever it feels like we are being called to slip the ‘c’ from reactive to the front of the letter queue and make creative.

2014 – a project with the children of Luz Divina and Luz de Paraíso in Peru

2015 – Chuckling over what I wrote in 2015 to accompany this image: “New phone, new computer… Feeling like I want to crawl back into the old cocoons right now.”

2016 – “Such a gift to be present at Faith Lutheran Church Leavenworth as the congregation honored and released Pastor Alex after 17 years of service in God’s mission there.”

“Entanglement is not submission to a hive mind or an effacement of differences; it is instead… noticing that we are inescapably interconnected—and this is tragedy and hope.” —Bayo Akomolafe, These Wilds Beyond Our Fences, p. 182

“Seven Years of Wonder” is a daily look back at my creative journaling posts since 2014. I began this journey on Feb. 11, 2021, and hope to continue through Feb. 10, 2022. What am I learning about my art and faith journey thus far? What has remained constant? Where have I been changed? How is this impacting present and future art-making?

A deep bow of gratitude to you for keeping me company on this journey.

It seems to me you are most assuredly on a creative path with your writing, Jim, already following the voice in/of your heart. When the Grünewald Guild offers a course with Brittany Deininger, I would highly recommend checking it out. Brittany curates and guides an incredible contemplative writer’s experience. Here’s a glimpse inside her notebooks – https://www.gatherings.ink/her-notebook.
